Hello Friends and Partners,
Have you ever noticed that there are times in your life when you are struggling in some area with your flesh (your natural feelings, thoughts, emotions and desires)? I have noticed a lot of people going through that at the moment and I believe it is not something that we need to be frightened of. Sometimes to deal with something, we actually have to acknowledge that it is there.
Ephesians 4:22-24
That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Now recognition and identification are two completely different things. I can recognize certain things in my flesh (jealousy, pride etc) but identify with who I am as a new creation in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:16-17
Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
My new created self in Christ is full of the fruit of the spirit (Gal 5:22-23) and when I see something in my life that doesn’t line up this, but is more in line with the works of the flesh (Gal 5:19-21), I am instructed to put off this old man and put on the new created according to God in true righteousness and holiness. The Bible says that by the Spirit we put to death those things in our flesh that can rob us (Rom 8:13). We can do this by praising God that we are dead to sin and alive to God (Rom 6:11), that the same power that rose Jesus from the dead is giving us new life (Rom 6:4), that we have a mind controlled by the spirit that is life and peace (Rom 8:6) and that we can now rule in life by the abundance of grace and of the free gift of righteousness (Rom 5:17). Recognize the old without condemnation and quickly put it off and then boldly identify with the new to put on the new man. You are no longer an old sinner that God puts up with but a new creation in Christ and Gods beloved. When you start to believe this then you will start to act like it (Prov 23:7). If you are struggling, then write these scriptures out and look at them every day. Create a vision in your heart of who you really are.
